My Teacher, My Hero

There are countless definitions of heroes today. A superstar who used his fame and fortune to help the needy in his hometown. A firefighter who sees no danger in all circumstances just to save lives of people. An Overseas Filipino Worker who is ready to bear the pain of being alone just to provide his family a comfortable life.

"There are heroes and heroines, national and local. Some of them are born, others are made. Many are still living while many others have long been gone. Monuments and museums were built to keep their memories alive in our hearts and minds. In the calendar important dates and events are usually marked red to remind us of their birth or death anniversary."-unknown But behind all these great people are strong foundations that guide, develop, and mold them all throughout. They are the teachers!

They play a big and important role in our community   as   well   as   our    lives.    An EDUCATOR,                   ENTERTAINER, SUPPORTER, ROLE MODEL, ASSESSOR. These  are  only  some  of  the  role  of our teachers.

What is the first thing that will come to your mind when you hear the word teacher? Is it lectures and new lessons or quizzes and assignment or sermons and jokes? Whatever your answer is, please do always remember that they gave us their time, to learn and to develop mentally, physically, and socially. They are here not only to teach, but also to love and care us. They are our second parents. They are also our friends with whom we can discuss any kind of problem. They are our inspiration to continue our journey. They are our lamp, which serves as our guide in the long road of darkness. Without them, we would have been lost. They shape the future of a child. And they are the ones who hold the candle of enlightenment, knowledge and prosperity.

Today we have made so many great discoveries like man has landed on moon and mankind has given a new meaning to life and has found many ways to make human lives better. All this is happening because of education. And there can be no education without teachers; therefore, all credit goes to teachers. It is tribute to teachers who are enabling us to discover the vastness and secrets of life.

IMMUNATION: Arming Science Clubbers With Healthful Defenses Towards National Awareness

This year’s theme, Immunation: Arming Science Clubbers with Healthful Defenses Towards National Wellness, will help us to know more about how to fight and prevent diseases.

In every disease that comes to our body, there’s always the so called immune against this disease. The word IMMUNE means having or producing antibodies or lymphocytes capable of reacting with a specific antigen. Immunization protects us from many harmful diseases that can have very serious complications or even cause death. It also helps reduce the spread of disease to others and prevent epidemics. But not every high mortality diseases have had their immunization. According to the internet, immunization is provided by a vaccine, a biological preparation that improves immunity to a particular disease. So, Science clubbers can be protected against these diseases by vaccines, which are injected or given by mouth. It is therefore essential that we know why, when, where and how many times we should be immunized. This past few days Ebola virus and MERS-CoV became a worldwide menace and concern to everyone. We, Science clubbers will be armed against these diseases through our knowledge on how these diseases will transfer to another person.

Getting immunized is important for at least two reasons: to protect ourselves and to protect those around us. But without immunization, an average of three out of every hundred children born will die from measles. Another two will die from whooping cough. One more will die from tetanus. And out of every two hundred children, one will be disabled by polio.

Who is my Hero?

Who is my hero? Is he a super hero like superman, batman or spider man, out to save the world from danger? NO. My hero is braver and stronger than that. Is my hero a celebrity with fame, glam and fortune? NO. My hero is even better and more special than that.

In a world where everyone you meet lives behind personal mask lies are abundant, the only person who is and will always be real to me is my FATHER. He is the first person I would turn to for advice. Sometimes, I got irate because he expected too much out of me, but at the end, I realized that he was doing it for own good. Ever since I was a child he was always there for me. He is my protector and savior. He is such a loving person. He taught me independence and responsibility so I will be successful. Self motivation, self respect and self discipline are the characteristics that my father has instilled in me. He also taught me that life isn't always fair. He said that when I want something I had to work hard and strive hard for the best and when I have a dream I better run for it and don't look back until I reach the finish line. He keep telling me not to give up no matter how complicated and intricate objective is. My dad is always encouraging me to do well in school and at home. he told me not to step down the stairs of life. When I bring home a bad news about my schooling, he always gently talk to me. He has a positive outlook on everything and always do better. I want the optimism he has. I want to be just like him.

My dad is like my personal super hero, saving my day from any catastrophes. I thank him most because he thought me to respect, to love and to be the best I can be.

He hasn't been president of the Philippines or invented any or been an actor or been in a movie or even saved a life. But what he does and just being in my life makes him my HERO.

REFLECTION

A number of student would agree to me if I would say that Information and Communications Technology "ICT" was an awesome and cool subject. Do you know why? LET'S FIND IT OUT! :)

Our lesson for the first grading was all about INTERNET. I've learned new things. Some of our interesting topics are history of internet, internet services and tools, search engines and different person behind the success of internet. And the best topic for this grading is BLOG. It is not my first  time to hear that word but I don't know what is it all about. But our teacher filled my mind with all the information of blog.

Even though I found blog as the best and most interesting topic, I still encountered difficulties. The first is writing essays or compositions. I hate writing and writing hate me too. I was stressed of thinking every time our teacher told us to make our draft for our blog. It took me a lot of hours to compose an essay that is good enough to post in my blog. Second is typing. I had a slow speed on typing.

In the end, I address all my difficulties. I asked my classmates who were literature lover some tips and techniques on writing essays. One time, I asked my friend to correct my grammar. Typing as one of my difficulty vanished every time I type a composition to my blog. Now, I found typing blogs and writing an essay enjoyable to do.

Moving on, I will face again any difficulties I will encounter with pleasure. I will try my best to make an effective essay and I will practice typing. And lastly, I will enjoy my ICT subject for this is my last year as a high school student.

Do you now know why? It not only because it is all about computers and internet but because the topics are applicable to our life. We students can use our learning to our daily lives.

Reaction About the 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of the President

President Benigno "PNoy" Aquino III delivered his 5th State of the Nation Address last Monday, July 28, 2014, at Batasan Complex, Quezon City. This years SONA of PNoy was monitored by millions of Filipinos here and abroad amid many issues this country has been experiencing.

President Aquino mentioned about the Zamboanga siege and the Php 35 Billion allotted for infra projects and housing in Zamboanga. He also shared about the Philippines as one of the leading countries in Asia for its growth in GDP and GNP. Also, the employment rate had increased and that this reflects how the government handled the labor policies. He talked the very important topic of DAP was directed to. PNOy admits regarding the delay of new power plants but it needs to be managed well for future shortage issues. He then forwarded his plans on importing more rice to bring down prices in the domestic market.

In my oinion, this was the best SONA of president Benigno Aquino III in his 5 years of being the father of our country, the Philippines. However, I felt that the speech was too long to miss on some important issues like the Php 10 Billion Pork Scam. He should mentioned the scam for anti-corruption is his main thrust in the "Daang Matuwid" platform.

INSIGHTS ABOUT 2014 NUTRITION MONTH CELEBRATION

Preparedness Must Be First

Ilocos Sur National High School had a lot of activities in line with the 40th Nutrition Month celebration this July with the theme, "Kalamidad Paghandaan: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan."

Calamity, hunger and malnutrition. These three are the threats and problems that are burdens to every Filipino and they are continuously fighting it. There are lots of programs that the government are promoting in order to prepare and prevent these problems. But these are not enough because we are not all sympathetic to combat  for it. How can we prepare for calamities? How can we resolve the problems of hunger and malnutrition in our country? We do not have the power to stop calamities. Therefore the best way for us to do is to prepare.

We must not only prepare the material things but also ourselves because at the time of disaster we might catch a disease. So our body should stay healthy and fit for us to withstand any calamities that our country might encounter.
